Call for dash cam footage after Curra woman's horror crash

UPDATE: POLICE have urged witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the car in yesterday's horror crash at Kybong to come forward. 

A 47-year-old Curra woman was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital yesterday afternoon in a serious but stable condition after the crash at about 1.30pm. 

Gympie Ambulance officer in charge Wayne Sachs said the woman sustained severe chest and pelvic injuries in the crash.

Emergency crews had to remove the driver's side door to free the woman from the wrecked blue Toyota hatchback.

Initial investigations suggest the car was travelling north before drifting into the southbound lane. 

Police believe it then veered off the road, rolling at least once before coming to rest in the ditch on the southbound side. 

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the car or has dash cam footage of the vehicle travelling between Cooroy and Kybong to contact police.

UPDATE: A CURRA woman has been airlifted by helicopter to Royal Brisbane Hospital following a serious single vehicle accident on the Bruce Hwy.

The woman, 47, was travelling north on the highway toward Gympie when her car drifted into the opposite lane before violently veering into an adjacent ditch.

Police said the vehicle rolled at least once.

"The passenger has suffered significant injuries to her chest and pelvic area," said Gympie ambulance chief Wayne Sachs. 

"She is in a serious but stable condition."  

Paramedics, police and fire crews were all on scene, with the door of the car having to be removed to reach the woman.  

After being treated by local ambulance crews, the woman was loaded into a helicopter and flown to further treatment in Brisbane for further treatment.  

Police said the injuries were consistent with those caused by seatbelts in collisions.  

UPDATE: A LOCAL woman is about to be airlifted to Brisbane after a serious single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Hwy south of Gympie. 

Emergency crews told the Gympie Times the 47-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition, and has severe injuries to her chest and pelvic area. 

She had to be freed from the vehicle, with one of the doors removed.

She will be airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. 

Southbound highway traffic is still backed up, with many drivers choosing to turn around and detour along the Mary Valley Hwy.  


UPDATE: A WOMAN has been freed from the wreckage of a car that crashed south of Gympie on the Bruce Hwy. 

Southbound traffic is at a standstill just south of the Golden Nugget truck stop at Kybong.

EARLIER: REPORTS are emerging of a serious crash on the Bruce Hwy just south of Gympie. 

At least three emergency crews are arriving at the scene of the crash at Kybong, near the Golden Nugget truck stop and caravan park. 

Southbound traffic has come to a standstill.
