Campbell to forgo interests

BESIEGED Campbell Newman will give up all his and wife Lisa's business interests if elected, in a bid to end what he says is "the most vicious, untrue smear campaign in Australian political history".

Labor has relentlessly campaigned against the Liberal National Party leader and his family over allegations of "dodgy deals" involving companies run by relatives of the couple.

Mr Newman again denied wrongdoing, claiming he had already been open and honest with the electorate. But he said he had decided to shed his family and business assets to challenge the ALP to focus on real issues.

A poll shows he will likely fail to win the seat of Ashgrove from Labor's Kate Jones.

"We are determined we are not going to allow the Premier (Anna Bligh) to try to get away with misleading people and stealing an election on the basis of these lies and distortions," Mr Newman said. "Too much is at stake for Queensland."
