Chemical reaction causes cloud of smoke on campus

EMERGENCY services were called to University of Queensland Gatton campus after reports of a chemical interaction at the site.

A campus spokeswoman said chemicals were being transferred between tanks when the incident occurred about 11.30am.

The transfer caused "a great deal of smoke".

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they stayed at the scene for about an hour.

She said no one came in contact with the chemical interaction but that paramedics stayed on standby as a precaution.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services also attended the scene to ensure the area was safe.

The campus was not evacuated.
