Cowboys star visits students in Proserpine
STUDENTS at Proserpine State High School were treated to a visit from North Queensland Cowboys halfback yesterday during the school's annual 'Boy's Day Out' event at the Proserpine Showgrounds.
Australian and Queensland star Thurston made the trip from Townsville for the event where he joined a number of positive male role models from around the region to talk to male students from years nine and ten about the importance of being a good man.
A favourite among Cowboys and Queensland fans, Thurston spent three hours at the event talking and chatting with staff and students, signing autographs and addressing the group as a mentor.
A total of 15other male mentors from several different fields including rural, tourism and hospitality, sailing, music and the arts, police/defence forces and real estate also addressed the group of students, offering valuable life advice and talking about their own personal experiences.
A 'Girls are Game' program was held concurrently on the school grounds where girls from years nine and ten participated in several activities designed to build team work and co-operation skills.
