Deal with Federal Government to bring 58 extra interns
MORE than 50 extra medical interns will be trained in Queensland hospitals, after the Commonwealth and State Government reached a deal on Friday.
Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek and her Queensland counterpart Lawrence Springborg reached agreement to create 58 new medical intern spots in the state's hospitals.
The deal for Queensland was part of a national deal, which would see another 116 interns train in hospitals around the nation.
Of the total, 84 will be funded by the Commonwealth and 32 by state governments in Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.
In Queensland, the state will fund 18 positions, with the Commonwealth to provide 40 spots to train medical interns.
