Eddy tested world champ

SLOGGING it out in one of Australia's toughest sporting events is nothing compared to giving birth, according to former ironwoman Kristy Ellis.

Eddy Ellis, the first child for the two-time world champion and husband Luke, arrived on March 26, weighing in at a healthy 3.1kg.

But the 12-hour labour was not as smooth sailing as Ellis would have hoped.

"My labour was short compared to some. I could not imagine going for another 12 hours," she joked.

Eddy was born at 7am, sporting a full head of brown hair, just as Ellis had expected.

"There is an old wives' tale that if you get a lot of heartburn when you are pregnant, then your child will be born with a lot of hair," she said.

"I had heartburn my whole pregnancy and so I guess it came true."

Three weeks after the birth, Ellis has already started light exercise.

"We are going out for walks and making lots of visits to friends and family," she said.

"Eddy really likes to get out, so I am really lucky in that respect."

She has even managed to get in eight hours sleep a night.

"We could not have asked for a more precious son and he is a good sleeper as well," she said.

"I have a new-found respect for mothers."
