THE death of Australian music industry stalwart and Rosebank resident Vince Lovegrove at the weekend has been keenly felt by many, including Oz-rock legend Jimmy Barnes.

"RIP Vince, I love you and will miss you," Mr Barnes said in a statement to The Northern Star.

"You are one of the wildest and most passionate people I know, and we shared a lot of life. You never held back mate, you lived!

"You are in my heart always."

Another Cold Chisel band member, Ian Moss, speaking from a rehearsal in Sydney told The Northern Star Mr Lovegrove was the band's first manager when they got started in Adelaide.

"Things started to go really well from there. He was able to spread the word," Mr Moss said.

One of Mr Lovegrove's best traits was his optimism.

"Vince was a glass half-full type guy. He always had a positive approach and enthusiasm," Mr Moss said.

Among a long list of achievements, Mr Lovegrove managed a European tour for Jimmy Barnes and was instrumental in bringing '80s rock group the Divinyls to prominence.

Mr Lovegrove died in a car accident late on Friday night on Binna Burra Rd at Federal.

Long-time friend and local singer songwriter Gyan Evans was one of the last to see him alive.

"He was a beautiful man with a generous soul, and a supportive, passionate music-lover," she said.

"It was hard to comprehend him dying like that after all he had gone through."

Former Rose Tattoo guitarist Tim Gaze was making music with Mr Lovegrove from 2009, but knew him from the 1960s.

"He was passionate and loved the truth, ... an idealist in many ways," he said.

"He was very helpful and gave his experience, whatever he had.

"He was also a great family man and much-loved grandfather. His family has lost a lynchpin."

Mr Lovegrove's other great love was writing - be it in books or newspapers.

Mr Lovegrove wrote a biography of late INXS singer Michael Hutchence with a cover photo by rock photographer Tony Mott.

"Vince new Michael better than anyone, except for the band," Mr Mott said.

"No-one in the Australian music industry from the 1970s and '80s hadn't come across Vince.

"You could talk to 20 different people and you would get 20 different stories."

Over the years, Mr Lovegrove wrote for newspapers across Australia and was this week to start work as a reporter with The Northern Star.

Mr Lovegrove's daughters Holly and Lilli and grandsons Marlon and Arlo thanked all for their condolences for the loss of "their beautiful" father.

A private funeral will be held, as well as a public memorial in Sydney.

In related news, Mi-Sex keyboard player Murray Burns is recovering in a Melbourne hospital after collapsing from a suspected heart attack. Well known locally, Mr Burns runs Studio 301 in Byron Bay.
