IT was the weekend music buffs and festival fanatics plan their lives around.

Yesterday, Mackay rockers and music lovers danced to the beat of live music at the annual Groovin' the Moo festival in Townsville.

It was hailed as one of the biggest line-ups in the history of the festival, which began five years ago.

The four-hour trip north was worth the distance as young and old enjoyed the music styling of the Kaiser Chiefs, New Zealand songstress Kimbra, Matt Corby and urban tones of the Hilltop Hoods.

Daily Mercury journalist Fallon Hudson got up close and personal with the performers who took the stage for the festival as well as some of Mackay's festival-goers who took the pilgrimage north.
