THE Emerald State School under-12 Green team proved unstoppable against St Patrick's A side in the Central Highlands junior rugby union grand final.

Though competition was fierce, the Emerald State School was hungry for the win and took it in convincing style, beating St Patrick's 35-21.

The grand final day was held at the Australian Agricultural College Emerald campus as the U6 to U12 age groups concluded the season.

"The season has been really good, we've had really good numbers," Central Highlands Junior Rugby Union president Dave Glover said.

From the region's junior rugby union ranks, Glover said 28 kids made it into the Outback Queensland Country Bushrangers side and four more players were chosen for higher representative honours.

"The increase of competitiveness with the development of junior pathways is starting to see kids make opportunities," he said. "Also pleasing is the efforts of the Central Highlands committee and the volunteers, schools and teachers' efforts to the competition."
