Local chases Miss Universe title

Model Sharlette Jane of Korora is competing to become the next Miss Universe.
Model Sharlette Jane of Korora is competing to become the next Miss Universe.

COFFS Coast glamour girl Sharlette Jane hopes to soon have the modelling world at her feet and a Miss Universe crown on her head.

The 19-year-old, who grew up at Korora, is vying alongside thousands of Australian models to win the Miss Universe Australia 2012 Search for the Miss Dodo Girl.

The competition offers the winner a $50,000 contract and the opportunity to become the face of a marketing campaign for the telco.

But it's the biggest prize of all that Sharlette has her sights set on.

"The winner and two runners-up will automatically gain entry into the 2012 Miss Universe Australia National Final," Sharlette said.

"The thing is I now have just over a week to get into the Top 30."

Setting her goals high, the brunette needs support through social media to become a finalist.

"This is my chance to become the face of one of Australia's most recognised brands, so I need to place myself ahead of the race and get everyone in Coffs Harbour to vote for me today," she said.

"I have grown up in Coffs Harbour my whole life living in Korora and placed in the top 25 of Miss Universe Last year and recently placed second in Miss Coffs Coast.

"I'm motivated by a challenge. The more challenging the project, the more I want to be successful in getting it finished, it doesn't get much bigger than Miss Universe."

The first stage of the Dodo Girl competition closes on Saturday at 11.59pm.

The top 30 contestants with the highest number of votes will move into the semi-final, where voting will take place for the Top 15.

Voting for the semi-final will closed on Friday, April 27 at 11:59pm.

The Top 15 finalists will then participate in the preliminary final, organised by Miss Universe and judged by a panel.
