GAVIN Williamson thought he was dreaming when his mother Delma walked into his hospital room.

The 55-year-old Rockhampton man has been recovering in the Royal Brisbane Hospital since he lost his leg in a horrific motorcycle accident on Gladstone Rd just over a month ago.

Delma and Gavin's sister Carol Stock made a surprise visit to see him last week.

"You should have seen the look on his face," Delma said. "He said, 'mum I was just thinking of you'. He thought he was dreaming."

Delma said Gavin had undergone a number of major surgeries while down in Brisbane.

"Everything has gone well," she said. "He's getting around in a wheelchair now and could have his new leg in eight to 10 weeks."

She said hospital staff indicated he could be transferred back to Rockhampton Hospital soon.

His daughter's wedding is next weekend.

"We still don't know if he'll be able to go, but we all have our fingers crossed," Delma said.
