FOOTBALL: Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has dismissed criticism of his English Premier League form as the team looks to get its league season back on track aat home to champion Leicester City tonight.

Rooney has scored just once in five EPL games this campaign as United have struggled to find fluency under Jose Mourinho's management.

United had lost three straight games in all competitions, including a derby defeat to leader Manchester City, before beating Northampton Town in the EFL Cup in midweek.

Rooney again came under scrutiny after his performance in that game with some calling for Mourinho to drop his captain.

But Rooney told the club's website that he takes little notice of the critics and is just concerned with getting results.

"I think I've had that [criticism] my whole career - a little bit more of late, I think, but that's football,” he said.

"I listen to my coaches and my teammates, the people around me, and I don't really listen to what a lot of people out there are saying because a lot of it is rubbish.

"I have to focus, work hard, of course, and I've done that throughout my career. I've worked hard and tried to do my best for the team.”

Leicester has also had a stuttering start to the season and will be looking to bounce back after a 4-1 thumping by Liverpool.

In other games Manchester City takes will look to extend its winning EPL start to six games when it takes on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

City will be boosted by the return of striker Sergio Aguero, back from a three-game suspension.

Also tonight: Bournemouth v Everton, Liverpool v Hull, Middlesbrough v Tottenham, Stoke v West Brom, Sunderland v Crystal Palace, Arsenal v Chelsea
