8 caught over the limit in 4 hours

EIGHT drivers were caught drink driving over a four hour period on Saturday night and Sunday morning as part of a State Government road safety traffic program.

Operation Coldsnap saw a four hour breath testing station set up on Shute Harbour Road in Cannonvale between 10pm Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.

Overall 13 people were caught drink driving in the past week in the Whitsundays.

The highest reading recorded during the operation was from a 30-year-old Cannonvale man who recorded a BAC of .245 per cent. Others to be nabbed during the operation were;

•A 52-year-old Cannonvale man who recorded a BAC of 0.188.

•A 26-year-old Airlie Beach man who recorded a BAC of 0.148.

•A 21-year-old Red Hill woman who recorded a BAC of 0.138.

•A 36-year-old Conway woman who recorded a BAC of 0.089.

•A 23-year-old female French tourist who recorded a BAC of 0.089.

•A 48-year-old Mt Julian man who recorded a BAC of 0.081.

•A 35-year-old North Gregory man who recorded a BAC of 0.078.

Elsewhere:

• A 25-year-old Cannonvale man who recorded a BAC of 0.118 was charged with drink driving after being intercepted in Coral Esplanade in Cannonvale at about 2.19am on Thursday.

• A 19-year-old Mt Julian man recorded a BAC of 0.061 after being intercepted on Shute Harbour Road in Cannonvale at about 9pm on Saturday.

• A 33-year-old Cannon Valley man recorded a BAC of 0.064 after being intercepted at about 5.50pm on Sunday on the Bruce Highway at Lethebrook.

• A 53-year-old Conway man recorded a BAC of 0.152 after being intercepted at about 11.30pm on Sunday on Conway Road, Conway.

• A 30-year-old Dingo Beach man recorded a BAC of 0.069 after being intercepted at about 8.50pm on Main Street in Proserpine. The man was also charged with unlicensed driving.
