WHITSUNDAY Airport's residential air park will have its first resident within three weeks when aviation enthusiast Anthony Baldry moves in to his new house.
Mr Baldry, originally of southern NSW, has lived in Sydney for the past six years but decided to make the move north when he heard about Whitsunday Aviation Village Estate (WAVE).
WAVE, which was opened with an air show in May, is the only residential air park of its kind in Australia and has succeeded in attracting residents from across Australia.
Mr Baldry, who works from home as an investor in the share market, is a keen pilot and has his own plane which he built himself from a kit.
He is most looking forward to the convenience living adjacent to an airstrip will provide.
“It's going to be great,” Mr Baldry said.
“I'm going to be able to go for a half hour spin in my plane and come straight back home.
“Living in cities, it's hard to get access to general aviation airports so I've been looking for a place like this for quite a while now.”
Mr Baldry's house will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room, a study as well as the clinchers - an aircraft hangar and workshop big enough to build another plane some time down the track.
“It's probably bigger than what I need,” he said.
“But it's good to have room for family and my flying buddies to be able to come and visit.”
