A LUXURY Great Barrier Reef resort which featured on the hit TV series The Biggest Loser is for sale.

Fitzroy Island Hunt Resort, 30km off the north Queensland city of Cairns, has been in receivership since April.

Receiver Greg Moloney, from Ferrier Hodgson says the assets of the resort will be offered for sale with vacant possession.

"The exact timing and process of the sales campaign is currently being assessed and the receivers expect to make a further announcement in the near future," Mr Moloney said.

"In the interim the resort will remain closed to guests."

The resort earlier this year hosted contestants from TV reality show The Biggest Loser.

In April it entered receivership with estimated debts of at least $65 million and most of its million-dollar apartments unsold and unfinished.
