Stay safe at Cedar Falls

DON’T jump or climb the rock face at Cedar Creek falls this wet season.

That is the message from Whitsunday Deputy Mayor Rogin Taylor who is urging people to enjoy the water fall in a safe manner.

“Put your pride in your pocket and go home safely,” Cr Taylor said.

“Spinal injuries are not uncommon.”

After some decent January rain, the falls are flowing rapidly and are now a great attraction and place to relax for visitors and locals.

Former Whitsunday resident Tom Wormald spent one of his final days in the Whitsundays at Cedar Creek Falls on Saturday before moving back to Sydney.

Rather than risk injury or worse, Tom was content to play catch in the water with his mates. Cr Taylor visited Cedar Creek Falls over the weekend and said he was delighted to see so many people being safe.

“It was wonderful to see so many people having a wonderful time,” he said.

“It was like the lagoon.”

And Cr Taylor hopes for everyone’s sake that it stays that way.

“Have fun enjoy yourself, get underneath the waterfall,” he said.

“But don’t jump; please don’t jump.

“Climbing up the rock face is definitely dangerous too.”
