10% unemployed but this Qld boss can't find workers

NEARLY 10 per cent of Townsville is without work, but there's one job that apparently no-one wants.

A Townsville business owner, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution, has been searching for a kitchen hand and barista to join her expanding business.

She advertised the job two weeks ago and in that time only one person applied.

The advertisement on indeed.com.au is for an immediate-start position.

The job involves preparing ready-made meals for the business.

She said it appeared no-one wanted to work in the kitchen.

"I've only got one or two long-term staff who have been with us for about 12 months.

"I interviewed a girl yesterday, the first person that showed up.

"I phoned her at 9am this morning and left a message for her to call me. I still haven't heard back from her.

"Why do they come in for the interview?

"Another lady, the one person that gave me the resume, she gave me three excuses as to why she could not come and do a trial."
