Teen stabbed in dispute over money, court told

A DISPUTE between two housemates over money ended with one suffering a stab wound and the other in police custody, Ipswich Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Police arrested an 18-year-old woman, after she allegedly slashed her 16-year-old housemate with a knife across the chest, about 7pm on Sunday. The 16-year-old victim was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

Police arrived at the Jones St address in Bellbird Park and charged the 18-year-old with armed robbery and unlawful wounding.

She was held in police custody overnight and appeared in a prison-issued brown shirt in the dock on Monday.

Police opposed bail because of the seriousness of the offence but the woman was successful in her bid to be freed.

The 18-year-old was bailed to reside at her mother's Toowoomba home.

Her mother travelled from Toowoomba and was visibly upset during the hearing.

Solicitor Matthew Fairclough said his client immediately regretted her actions.

He said the friendship between the pair had soured since they began to reside together.

"This is a situation where two young people who have been living together as friends have had a disagreement over money," he said.

"It is not a domestic and there is no criminal history. It is a young person living in a situation that has deteriorated and led to her wanting to leave and led to a dispute about money."

He said the 18-year-old was not at risk of reoffending, if given bail.

Magistrate Andy Cridland allowed bail on the condition she had no contact with the victim.

The 18-year-old is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 16.
