$1m for raceway: LNP

SENATOR Barnaby Joyce and Liberal National Party Candidate for Dawson, George Christensen last week committed $1 million to support the development of the Whitsunday Raceway and Driver Education Training Facility.

The Coalition funding will complete the raceway's bitumen sealing and construction and sealing of a pit area, construction of canteen and lighting for the track.

“This facility will help attract national and state racing events to the region and provide a fillip to our local tourism industry,” Mr Christensen said.

“On completion, it will be Queensland's first driver education facility north of Gympie.

“This will help all drivers improve their skills, and, in particular provide a safe environment for young drivers in the area to drive cars and bikes.”

Senator Joyce said last week that the facility was needed.

“It's clubs like these that make this nation great – local people getting together to help create stronger local communities,” he said.
