PETER Kassulke got the shock of his life when he found a 2 metre crocodile in his crab pot.

Peter was fishing up at Punsand Bay in Cape York when the large croc managed to squeeze into his pot.

"We put a crab pot in one night to see if we could catch some crabs and then went down in daylight the next day and found a 2 metre crocodile had got into the pot," he said.

"We wondered how something so big had got in there but it must have forced its way in. He would of went in there after the crabs, they love crabs."

The Lockyer Valley resident said luckily it didn't take too much effort to get the croc out.

"A couple of guys from the camp ground came down and we ended up cutting him out and then got him out with a little nudge and he swam away unhurt."

Peter said while the croc incident was a story to tell, he really wanted some crabs.

"We missed out on a feed of crabs but caught a croc. I definitely would've rathered the crabs."

Peter's father, Sunshine Coast resident Graeme Kassulke, said he and his son had never experienced anything like this in all the times they'd been fishing.

"It's so unusual," he said.

Graeme said the crab pot was now on the wall of a bar up north.

"The owners of the bar up there have put it up on the wall there."
