Three people sent to prison over serious assault

THREE Whitsunday residents have been jailed after a break and enter in Jubilee Pocket more than 18 months ago when a man was assaulted.

The two men and one woman were sentenced to periods of imprisonment in the Bowen District Court last week after the incident in April 2012.

At the time of the offences, police said the matter was related to a parental custody dispute.

It occurred at a home in Kingfisher Terrace. The victim was a 33-year-old man and police reported that the offenders were armed with a baseball bat.

In District Court last week, Carly Buckley, 28, was charged with burglary by break in company and assault occasioning bodily harm, also committed in company.

She was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended after 12 months.

John Ghattas, 41, was charged with the same offences and also faced an additional wilful damage charge.

He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment, suspended after 13 months.

John Carter, 49, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended after eight months.
