4000 child porn images not enough to jail ex-teacher

A FORMER teacher who had more than 4000 child porn files on his computer has escaped spending time behind bars because of his rehabilitation.

Bribie Island man Maximilian Ernst Hodgess, 44, was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty to using a carriage service to access child porn and possessing child exploitation material.

The court heard the offending took place during a 10-day period last year.

The court was also told that when police searched his house, he gave officers a USB that had child porn on it.
Some of the images showed children tied to beds.

When sentencing Hodgess, Brisbane District Court Judge Terry Martin said psychological reports tendered to the court said that going to jail could disrupt Hodgess's rehabilitation.

Hodgess was sentenced to 18 months in jail and released immediately on recognisance that he be of good behaviour for four years. He will also be subjected to supervision for two years.

On the second charge, he was sentenced to a year in jail, suspended immediately.

Hodgess will not spend time in jail but will have the jail sentences hanging over his head for four years.
