‘$495m for regions’

STATE Member for Whitsunday Jason Costigan echoed the announcement of LNP leader Lawrence Springborg on Monday.

Mr Costigan met Whitsunday Mayor Andrew Willcox at the Proserpine Sewage Treatment works to announce plans to reintroduce the Royalties to Regions program if re-elected.

"The Palaszczuk Labour Government's program is a cheapened version of Royalties to Regions. It's only $200 million over two years," he said.

"We will bring back Royalties to Regions, it will be $495 million just like last time but will be more refined.

"Before it was the domain of local governments putting their hands up for money... we are going to broaden that so reputable organisations in the community can have a crack.

"The ins and out of it have yet to be ironed out."

When asked if more public works projects needed to be implemented in the south of the Whitsunday region Mr Costigan said "parochialness is alive and well".

"There are some projects that all communities could benefit from, i.e. the airport."
