Big cost to bring big act to Rocky

IT'S believed to have taken up to $65,000 to get them here, but after a bout of bad weather, Jessica Mauboy and Stan Walker never made it to the big stage.

The Rockhampton Show's headlining outdoor performance was cancelled by the pair's promotional company after rain flooded the stage's electrical equipment on Sunday afternoon.

The cancellation has been met with a lot of disappointment in the community, but showgrounds co-ordinator Meegan Armstrong said she didn't see it as money wasted.

"It allowed us to put them in the showbag pavilion for a meet and greet," she said.

"More than 2000 people got to meet them and even more got to see them perform acoustic renditions of some of their songs."

Reef City Catering's Gemma Dadson, who helped cater for Stan and Jess on the night, was one lucky fan who got to meet the duo.

"They were really chilled out and funny," she said.

"Heaps of people lined up to see them.

"They were doing photos and hugs and signing autographs."

While show organisers were yesterday reluctant to disclose the cost, The Bulletin has previously reported council was prepared to pay up to $65,000 to bring a high-class act to the region.

A spokesman for Jess and Stan said the pair were extremely disappointed they were unable to perform for fans, but they looked forward to performing for all their Rockhampton fans in the future.

On Twitter, Stan Walker apologised to Rockhampton, hitting back at one user's comment that he and Jess were "money hungry".

"We will be back," he wrote.

Ms Armstrong said while it was heartbreaking to have the weather ruin everyone's hard work, it could have been worse.

"The whole show could have been washed out," she said.

"It was just one component of the whole entertainment program.

"Unfortunately, these things happen."
