Death toll hits 150 in Chinese floods

THE death toll from flooding in north and central China has been put at more than 150 people, and is expected to rise.

At least 100 people were missing yesterday and hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee their homes after the heaviest rainfall since 1996.

Most of the flooding occurred in the province of Hebei, where at least 12 villages were submerged.

In Xingtai city, about 400km south of Beijing, at least 25 people were killed.

Thousands of people have reportedly protested about the lack of flood warnings from authorities.
