Four sunscreens slapped for misleading consumers

FOUR leading sunscreens have been slip, slop, slapped down for misleading Aussies about the level of protection they offer.

Consumer advocacy group Choice says four out of six SPF 50+ sunscreens it tested did not meet the protection claims published on their packaging.

Both Banana Boat's Baby Finger Spray and Sport 50+ have SPFs of 42, while Aldi's Ombra 50+ Kids roll-on is 36 and Ego's Sunsense Sport 50+'s rating is 29. Cancer Council Classic 50+ and Nivea Sun Kids SPF50+ (roll-on) passed the 50+ test with flying colours.

Choice spokesman Tom Godfrey said he was "deeply concerned" that consumers were not getting what they paid for.
