
Landmarks go dark as Australia switches off for Earth Hour
THE world has flicked off their switches for Earth Hour, with Australian landmarks among the first to go dark to show support of international environmental issues.
As the World Wildlife Fund for Nature event crossed time zones, our Sydney Harbour Bridge and Parliament House were joined by London's Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The worldwide campaign was founded by the Sydney branch of WWF in 2007.
The need to protect the Great Barrier Reef is this year's Earth Hour theme, helping to encourage the planet to fade to black for just 60 minutes.
