State Government announces SEQ public transport fare freeze

PUBLIC transport fares in south-east Queensland will not change for at least six months after the State Government announced a freeze.

Queensland Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Sunday that fares would not increase with annual CPI while an independent review on transport fares was being conducted, and the freeze would occur until July 1 next year.

Between July and September this year, public transport patronage increased by about 3%.

The Fare Review Taskforce is expected to release its recommendations next year.
