A call no boatie wants to take: ‘mate she has sunk’

A BOAT owner received a heartbreaking call from the Coffs Harbour International Marina this morning after his 32-foot vessel sank while moored in port overnight.

Compounding the misfortune of the Taree-based skipper is that he recently spent $30,000 doing up his beloved Sambuca, a Randell Fly Bridge Cruiser.

Marina staff were alerted to the sunken vessel around 7am.

The cruiser, which has been moored in Coffs Harbour for many years, was afloat on Monday night and it was not known why it took on water.

It is expected the cause of the leak will only be discovered once the boat is floated.

The salvage is expected to occur later today.

Firefighters and Water Police have secured the vessel in an attempt to stop fuel leaking into the marina.
