A literary hit

WHITSUNDAY Christian College has been smack bang in the middle of a literary overdose, with not just one but two massive English-based events in the past week.

On Friday students from Years 2 to 9 travelled to Whitsunday Anglican School in Mackay for the Whitsunday Voices Literature Festival.

The students were involved in workshops and lectures from some of Australia's most highly regarded authors, illustrators and poets.

Then on Tuesday, three brave teams participated in the Write-A-Book-In-A-Day challenge.

From 8am to 8pm, the students planned, wrote, edited and illustrated their own original novel.

The story had to be written around the three main characters, one male, one female and one non-human, an issue, a setting and five random words. Teacher Kylieanne Mitchell said the teams put in a great effort and should be extremely proud of their determination. The books will be published on the Write-A-Book-In-A-Day website. They will also be printed and donated to the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane. Write-A-Book-In-A-Day raises money for The Kids' Cancer Project.
