A heart-warming tale of an old dog and his new owners
JASPER the dog and Beryl Baker, his owner, have been together since Jasper was a puppy.
But following a recent fall, Ms Baker has been forced to leave her Wilsons Beach home and take up residence in the Proserpine Nursing Home.
Dogs aren't permitted in the home and the question of what would become of Jasper remained.
Local resident Carole Dobson shared Jasper's plight on social media and discovered her neighbours were interested in looking after him.
Heather and Wynn Carnahan went ahead with Jasper's adoption and immediately took him to the Proserpine Hospital where Ms Baker was recovering from her fall and had been looking wistfully at pictures of her beloved pup.
Ms Dobson said staff at the hospital moved Ms Baker's bed out into the sunshine in the garden and there Ms Carnahan held Jasper carefully up. When Jasper "kissed" her hands and face, Ms Baker began to recall stories from the past.
Ms Dobson said Ms Baker was now at the nursing home where there had been many more happy visits.
"I just think it's a lovely story of the kindness that is so much a part of the Proserpine people," she said.
