Tsunami hits Japan after powerful earthquake
A SMALL tsunami has hit Japan after a powerful and shallow undersea earthquake at the weekend.
The earthquake happened on Saturday (Oct 26) and resulted in a 20cm wave rolling ashore near Ishinomaki.
There were no reports of damage or injury as a result of the 7.1 magnitude quake.
Workers at the Fukushima nuclear power plant were ordered to evacuate from the waterfront as a precaution.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 10km, 327km south-east of Ishionmaki located in the Miyagi Prefecture.
