Tony Abbott rejects claim asylum seekers were mistreated

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott has rejected claims Australian authorities mistreated refugees before sending them back to Indonesia.

Mr Abbott made the comments from Switzerland, supporting Immigration Minister Scott Morrison's denials of the allegations.

Several media reports in recent weeks have claimed officers working with Operation Sovereign Borders burned the hands of asylum seekers trying to get to Australia.

But Mr Abbott said those making the claims had no real evidence such activity went on, voicing his support for those working on the border operation.
