Adani wins praise for solar focus
IT'S not everyday Whitsunday Residents Against Dumping have a nice word to say about Adani.
However, Adani's announcement to construct a solar farm south-west of Moranbah proved there is a first for everything.
WRAD spokesperson Sandra Williams said she hoped Adani continued down this course and called on the mining company to invest solely in renewable energy.
"Adani's long-term future in Australia should lie in clean renewable energies - the industries of the future - not in polluting coal which makes workers sick, destroys our reef and heats our planet,” Ms Williams said.
"This is exactly the kind of investment we want to see Adani making in Australia, renewables not coal,” she said.
"Adani are the leaders in solar energy in India and invest huge amounts overseas, I think its fitting and proper they invest in solar in Australia.”
The project will be built next year and create 600 to 1000 jobs.
Adani has begun another solar project, in South Australia.
