The Adventures of Oyster Girl and Director Boy

AFTER her adventure's through Europe, Oyster Girl, is coming back to Airlie Beach.

Speaking from the other side of the globe, Airlie's very own Oyster Girl, Stephanie Verhaagen said each region of Europe had varying taste.

"France has some amazing oysters that we can't duplicate in Australia and the Irish oysters would be the closest one to our house oyster in taste and structure," she said.

"The traditional European Flat oyster, the Dutch oyster, which is the grand master of oysters, is amazing in taste and experience."

Director of the Oyster Girl company, Dwayne Johnston, has been travelling with Ms Verhaagen and was lucky enough to be the first Australian to work at the European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) as an oyster man.

"We have been invited back to TEFAF in the future because of where we are from and the enjoyment of the clients hearing an Australian oyster shucker, open an oysters for them," he said.

With the help of Oestercompagnie, a catering and hospitality business based around oysters, Mr Johnston has organised an international working agreement.

"It will position Airlie Beach as a location of great oysters and oyster shuckers and it also allows us to attend other events that they are holding, as well as expose our town to clients from all over the world," he said.

On Saturday night, the team at Airlie's Anchor Bar will be celebrating Oyster Girl's return.

Mr Johnston said he would like to thank Anchor Bar and Airlie Beach locals for their support since March, last year.

Anchor Bar co-owner John Knutson said everyone had been missing Ms Verhaagen since the first week she left.

"It's exciting that Airlie Beach has their Oyster Girl back home and shucking live oysters again," he said.

"We are doing discount specials on oysters for the celebration, with more exciting news to come."
