AFL clubs rocked by death of masters player

A 45-YEAR-OLD AFL player has died after he was tackled during a game at Underwood.

The Coolangatta Masters AFL team published a post on its Facebook page confirming the tragic news.

Seven News reported Andrew Colby had got up from a tackle and then appeared to stagger.

They reported he may have had a heart attack, despite being described as a fit player.

Mr Colby was treated by paramedics, who performed CPR for about 30 minutes.

The sad death prompted tributes and condolence messages to the player's family.

Ricky Tantucz: wrote: "Can't stop thinking about you all keep your heads up lads. Condolences to Andrew's family

Matt Goode offered thoughts and prayers from all at the Souths Sharks Masters AFC to Andrew's family and to all the Masters boys.

Mick Dawe posted:  "Terribly sad news.....the sort that no one would or should ever have reach them in playing any sport at any age.

"Condolences and prayers for Andrew's family from the whole Sunny Coast Masters football community. Springwood and Cooly boys....we feel for you as well in losing a treasured mate."

Mark George said his club was particularly affected:  "I'd like to offer condolences to Andrew's family and friends and the Coolangatta Masters FC on behalf of the Brunswick Mudlarks Masters FC.

"Having had players hospitalised just last weekend, one of whom as a result of a tackle, this hits home particularly hard. I'm sure that all of our thoughts are with you all."

Craig Wilson wrote: "OMG I can't believe it. Colbs was a champion bloke and a courageous teammate. Tough as teak on the field, a marshmallow off the field. RIP mate."
