60 year celebration for Qld's agricultural merchants

MEMBERS past and present will come together to celebrate 60 years of the Queensland Agricultural Merchants at an industry dinner held at Wellcamp Airport tonight.

Formed in 1955 to give a voice to independent agricultural produce, seed and grain merchants and traders, the organisation has grown to represent all agricultural commodities and has about 40 members with a combined estimated turnover of $1 billion.

Executive officer John Francis said in an industry that contributed more than $10 billion to the state's economy each year, an independent voice to represent agricultural merchants remained as essential today as it had through the past 60 years.

The Queensland Agricultural Merchants' 60th anniversary dinner will be attended by Mayor Paul Antonio and feature a keynote address from Denis Wagner.
