Airport upgrade

ON a recent business trip I had to fly to Brisbane via the Proserpine airport. It would have been approximately six months since my last visit to the airport. To my pleasant surprise what I saw was a fantastic new airport near completion. I was suitably impressed with the design, fit out and modern facilities including luggage carousel. Gone are the days of waiting for your luggage to be delivered on trailers in the heat.

The Whitsunday Regional Council and the State Government deserve to be congratulated. Our new airport is something that we can all be very proud of. Small in stature however it rivals the recently upgraded Mackay airport especially with the welcome feel it gives you when you arrive.

Prior to the redevelopment I am sure that there are many who would agree that the airport was an embarrassment to welcome our new arrivals, especially tourists. Saying that, I was also one to question if the best use of $7m should be spent on the redevelopment instead of promoting the region or redirecting the funds to the main street upgrade. I am now convinced that this is such a big step forward for the Whitsunday region. Together with the soon to start main street redevelopment we can be very proud of this beautiful region and more importantly portray to the rest of the world that we are a premier tourist destination when they arrive.

Again congratulations and thank you to the Whitsunday Regional Council and State Government. We appreciate it.
