Alan Jones: Even with no pulse, still wants Abbott back

ALAN Jones was told he was "at the exit door" when doctors failed to find a pulse after the broadcaster was rushed to hospital last week.

The Sydney radio veteran was overcome by septic shock a week ago, and this morning detailed his near miss and improving condition in a call to his own radio show.

Jones said he was "weak, but OK".

"I had a very bad weekend in that I was just shaking. My body was like a whole branch on a tree in a storm," he said. "I was sweating and sweating ... the situation was diabolical."

After a night of sweating through his sheets and growing increasingly weak, Jones was eventually admitted to hospital last Monday.

When he got to St Vincent's, the shock jock was told "we're just struggling to find a pulse", he said. Jones said his blood pressure had dropped to 40 and was then transferred to intensive care.

"I felt I could've walked to intensive care, but apparently I had no pulse," he said.

Alan Jones said he began to feel better around Thursday.

Jones said he would be off the air waves as he recovered for the rest of the week, and indicated he may finally start to slow down.

"I've just got to rest and be sensible, and obviously I do have to cut back on my workload," he said.

In typical fashion, Jones hasn't let his condition get in the way of keeping up with the news or coming up with commentary.

In the same call, he commented on the federal government and called for former prime minister Tony Abbott to be reinstated as leader.

"The leadership has got to go," he said. "The bedwetters have got to work out whether they hate Abbott more that they hate losing."
