Albino mantaray spotted

PASSENGERS and crew on board Whitehaven Xpress were treated to an unusual experience when they spotted an albino mantaray near the entrance of Butterfly Bay at Hook Island last Sunday.

Spanning more than three meters, visitors went crazy taking photos of the marine animal that ventured near the bow and port side of the boat to get a look at the boat.

Mantaray skipper Bryan Whelan said he had spotted more than 15 black and white (underneath) mantarays along the northern side of Whitsunday Island.

He said spotting the albino mantaray was a nice winter experience.
