All Stars too good for Cutters
EMOTIONAL and wet is the best way to describe the inaugural Cutters v Mackay and District Rugby League All Stars game on Friday.
The Mackay Cutters started exceptionally well, scoring a try within three minutes.
Despite the wet conditions they continued to score relatively easily in the first half and went into the main break 16-8 ahead.
But it was certainly a tale of two halves.
The All Stars scored 24 unanswered points in the second half, and were just too good for a young Cutters side, full of training and trial players.
For the All Stars, Sarina's Ben Buchholz had a great game and was named man of the match.
Regular Proserpine Brahmans' player Mick Newman played for the winning All Star side in what he described as "torrential" rain.
"It was really good to come away with the win and to see we have a good, strong comp," he said.
Newman said it was a bit of fun to play against fellow Brahman players David Kay and Isaac Richardson.
"I personally did not get to tackle any of them but they both played very well and David Kay got a try," he said, adding it was a great experience to play with such a great bunch of blokes.
The players will continue their pre-season games on March 12 in Townsville, when they play the Townsville Centrals.
