FORMER ABC personality Andy Muirhead has been jailed for child pornography crimes after a judge rejected claims he only watched online out of morbid curiosity.

Fairfax Media reported the one-time host of ABC's Collectors will serve at least another five months in jail of a 10-month sentence after facing the Supreme Court in Hobart.

Tasmanian Chief Justice Ewan Crawford said although it was not the worst of cases, the court must condemn what Muirhead did.

The 36-year-old admitted to downloading 12,409 picture files and 24 video files, involving an estimated 1930 different children.
