Airlie beach babe a finalist
AIRLIE Beach girl Tanika McDonald has been voted one of the top beach babes in the country and is featured this week as a finalist in Australian men's magazine Zoo Weekly.
The 18-year-old struck a chord with the public and managed to secure top spot on the beach babes poll on the Zoo website for six weeks, above almost 200 other girls from around the country.
She is a born and bred Whitsunday girl and went to school at Proserpine High.
Tanika said she loves everything to do with the beach - whether it be just lazing in the sun, sailing the Whitsundays, surfing, fishing, camping out on a deserted island, galloping horses along the beach, sipping cocktails by the sunset or snuggling by an open campfire.
She lists her "beautiful" show horse, Bella as one of her best friends and says she loves training and exhibiting show horses.
Tanika and Bella have won a number of titles on the show circuit.
She appears in this week's Zoo following her elevation to finalist in the Zoo competition.
It has been running for a few months and Tanika said she entered a bit late and was only hoping for a bit of exposure, so to top the rankings was a great surprise.
"It feels awesome, I didn't know I had so much support," she said.
The next step in the competition is being kept a tight secret, but Tanika said the rumour is the voting would restart for the 50 finalists when they are chosen.
If that is the case she said she would love local support, but she also said other Whitsunday girls should give it a go themselves.
"I'd encourage other girls to give it a shot, it is great for confidence building," she said.
Tanika's manager and mother Kym McDonald said since Tanika had been at the top of the leader board, she had received four calls from international magazines wanting photo shoots.
