Brahmans play Emerald on Saturday
THE Whitsunday Brahmans rugby league team will take on Emerald Tigers at the Airlie Beach Sports Park on Saturday night in the team’s second pre-season trial.
Coach Wayne Temby said Les Stagg Oval in Proserpine was too wet to play on this Saturday, so the game was being moved to the Airlie Beach field.
While it was not 100 per cent confirmed at the time of print, Temby said there was a very good chance the game would go ahead.
Kick off will be at 7pm and will round off a full day of football at the Airlie Beach fields, as the Whitsunday Sea Eagles are hosting a pre season carnival on the top field on the same day.
Temby said the pre season was going well for the Brahmans.
"I’ve been very happy ... we’ve been getting 40 to 50 at training every night, I can’t complain about that," he said.
The team has been training at Proserpine State High School’s multi purpose stadium for the past two weeks during the rain.
"We have a lot of depth this year, which is what we didn’t have last year," Temby said.
Last year the side lost eight first grade players in the opening round of the season, which was a massive blow for the side.
"Touch wood it doesn’t happen, but if does, we will be able to handle it a lot better this year," he said.
Temby is anticipating the Brahmans being strong in all grades this year and Saturday’s game, which will have two 20 minute halves, will give him another opportunity to test out player combinations.
The Brahmans’ first game of the Mackay Rugby League season will be at Les Stagg Oval against Wests Tigers on March 15.
