Planning starts for a new roundabout

PLANS are underway to build a roundabout at the intersection of Beach Road and Shute Harbour Road.

At last Tuesday’s Whitsunday Shire Council meeting, councillors agreed to advise the Department of Main Roads (DMR) it did not object to a proposed land acquisition of an easement at the intersection which will be needed for the construction of the roundabout.

The proposed plans will also be referred to Council’s traffic consultant and the Whitsunday Way Advisory Committee for comment.

Council agreed to the land aquisition on the condition DMR manages stormwater at the site to the Australian Rainfall and Runoff Standard.

A DMR spokesperson said the department was currently undertaking preliminary design work for the roundabout.

"To date, Main Roads has met with directly affected property owners to discuss the proposal, with consultation to start soon with other stakeholders," the spokesperson said.
