Two take on titles in Tassie
TWO Proserpine junior squash players, Matthew Muller and Frans Badenhorst, are in Davenport, Tasmania representing Queensland in the national championships.
Sixteen year-old Muller is playing in the 17 years age group.
Andrew's mother Karyn Muller said competitors play in individual events for the first four days, then move onto team events for the following four.
"Last year was the first year the Queensland team has beaten New South Wales in a number of years ... they'll be happy to repeat that this year," she said.
Muller is ranked seventh in Australia in the 17 year age group and was part of the 16 years Queensland team that beat NSW last year.
Locals at the Proserpine squash courts said the players were destined to "go places" in squash.
Badenhorst is playing in the individual 15 years age group and he and Muller have been training hard together over the last few months in preparation for the championships with Muller's father Larry.
Mrs Muller said that Matthew received an Elite Performance Grant from the Whitsunday Shire Council and without this help would not have been able to make the tournament.
The players are due home on October 9.
