Apple set to unveil new iPad on October 22: report

APPLE is set to unveil its latest iPad on October 22 as well as showing off its new Mac Pro, according to reports just out.

Tech site, AllThingsD, which has had good success in spilling Apple's secrets, says the company will hold its next invitation-only launch on Tuesday, October 22.

The fifth-generation iPad is expected to feature a thinner, lighter design akin to the iPad mini's, and an improved camera, the site says.

The iPad is facing fierce competition from Samsung's Galaxy and Google's Nexus range.

The latest iteration is expected to run Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip.

The second-generation iPad mini will be upgraded with a retina display and also see the A7 incorporated into its innards.

It's not clear whether Apple's new iPads will feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that recently debuted on the iPhone 5s, though that has been rumored.

Apple has declined to comments on the report.
