Wife didn't believe husband when he said they'd won lotto

UPDATE, 11.50AM: A Hervey Bay woman didn't believe her husband when he told her they had won big in the lotto.

But after double-checking the numbers, she found they were indeed the lucky winners of $1.6 million.

"My husband checked the numbers at home and he said 'you've won something here - a big prize'," she said.
"I said 'don't be ridiculous, it couldn't possibly be.' But there it was."

She said the win would change the couple's retirement plans and allow them to help their family.
"It's a big deal for us and our family.  You wouldn't believe how good a time this win has come so that we don't have to worry about money and our children don't have to worry about money."

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she was a "bit overwhelmed" by the win.

"We didn't sleep," she said.

The woman purchased her winning 12-game QuickPick from Torquay News.
Torquay News owner Graham Sewell said he had been happily spreading the news of another Hervey Bay division one win.
"It's fantastic to have sold another winning entry. It's been a long time coming," he said.
"This is the fourth division one winning entry we've sold, but the last one was in 2007.
"Hopefully there will be plenty more wins on their way for our customers."

The woman's entry was one of 12 division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3769 on Saturday 2, including four from New South Wales, four from Queensland, three from Victoria and one from Western Australia.

UPDATE, 10.30AM: A spokesman from Golden Casket has confirmed the winner of $1.6 million in Hervey Bay has officially been notified.

He said the winner was a retired woman who was understandably "very happy" about her big win.

The winner chose to remain anonymous, but the spokesman said there would be a bigger statement on the winner's reaction later on Monday.

Meanwhile Graham Sewell, owner of the Torquay IGA and News where the ticket was bought, is thrilled the division one winner was purchased at his store.

He said there had been plenty of people checking their tickets at the agency on Sunday and a few on Monday morning.

He said it would be good for the town to have another millionaire living locally, with Hervey Bay becoming a hotspot for lotto wins.

"Hopefully the trend continues," he said.

EARLIER: Are you the lucky winner of $1.6 million?

Torquay IGA & News has shared the exciting news that it has sold a winning division one lotto ticket.
