NABBED: Whitsunday police get traffic moving once again on Shute Harbour Rd, Mount Marlow.

THE Whitsunday roads were reminiscent of an action movie last Thursday, with a car chase taking place through the region.

On Thursday, November 12 at 11.10am, Proserpine police received a complaint regarding a yellow Holden ute driving erratically on the Bruce Highway.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Sergeant Nathan Blain said the driver was followed throught the Whitsunday area, where he failed to stop "a number of times".

Whitsunday police later re-located the man driving along Shute Harbour Rd, Mount Marlow, where he again attempted to evade police. The driver blew a tyre, forcing him to stop.

The 36-year-old Mackay man was charged with dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs, driving while disqualified, failing to dispose of drug utensils and driving while unregistered. While in police custody, the man appeared before the Mackay Magistrates Court on Friday, November 13, before being released on bail on Monday, November 16.

The man will next appear in court on December 8.

Sgt Blain said the incident showed how vital public information can be.

"It's a good example of information from the public which has enabled police to locate and apprehend this dangerous driver, who could have caused significant injury or harm to other road users," he said.
