Aussie Paralympian Liesl Tesch robbed at gunpoint in Rio
EVEN Rio's so-called "safe area" couldn't protect Australian athletic great Liesl Tesch from being robbed at gunpoint during a training camp.
Tesch and a team official were on their way to their accommodation at Flamengo Beach when the attack occured, the Daily Telegraph reports.
"It happened on Sunday morning, at about 7.45am, near a bus stop and about 50m away from a fun run," Tesch told the Telegraph.
"All of a sudden there were two men in front of us; I braked and the woman with me crashed into the back of me.
"I pulled up my shirt to show I didn't have anything.
"He then pointed the gun at my chest and demanded something else in Portuguese that I didn't understand."
Tesch won a gold medal with her sailing partner Dan Fitzgibbon at the London Paralympics.
